Blog 6: Learning Theory
1. Theorist:
- John Krumboltz
- Human behavior is the product of countless numbers of learning experiences made available by both planned and unplanned situations in which individuals find themselves.
- Learning outcomes include skills, interests, knowledge, beliefs, preferences, sensitivities, emotions, and future actions
- Nine factors that influence individual's behavior:
- Genetics
- Experiences
- Instrumental learning experiences
- Associate learning experiences
- Environmental conditions and events
- Impact of parents and caretakers
- Peer groups
- Structured educational settings
- Imperfect world
- Four propositions:
- Goal is to help clients take actions to achieve more satisfying career and personal lives-not to make a single career decision
- Career assessment are used to stimulate learning, not to match personal characteristics with occupational characteristics
- Clients learn to engage in exploratory actions as a way of generating beneficial unplanned events
- The success of counseling is assessed by what the client accomplished in the real world outside the counseling session.
