2. Systematic Framework Theory:
  • Three major parts of model:
    1. Approaching transition: Identifying type of transition (Anticipated or nonevent transition) and process.
    2. Identifying coping resources
    3. Strategies that can be used to take charge of the transition
  • Four major factors influence how individuals handle transitions:
    1. The situation: triggers, timing, source, role change, duration, and concurrent stress
    2. The self: socioeconomic status, culture/race/ethnicity, gender role, age, stage of life, health
    3. Support: intimate relationships, family, friendship networks, institutions
    4. Strategies: individual's ability to cope
